Grace Notes
All Saints' Day
November 3, 2024

O Almighty God, who hast knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord: Grant us grace so to follow thy blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys which thou hast prepared for those who unfeignedly love thee; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who with thee and the Holy Spirit liveth and reigneth, one God, in glory everlasting.  Amen.

ABOUT ALL SAINTS' DAY . . . Many scholars believe that the Feast of All Saints on November 1st originated in Ireland, spread from there to England, and then to Europe; documentary evidence attests to its celebration as early as the ninth century.  However, the desire of Christian people to express the inter-communion of the living and the dead in the Body of Christ, and to commemorate especially the heroic martyrs of the faith, stretches back to the earliest days of the Church.

All Saints’ Day is classed, in the Prayer Book of 1979, as a Principal Feast, taking precedence of any other day or observance. It is one of the four days recommended in the Prayer Book for the administration of Holy Baptism. All Saints' Day may always be observed on the Sunday following November 1, in addition to its observance on the fixed date.

OUR PRAYERS ARE ASKED FOR . . . . the sick and those in need, especially The Most Reverend Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop, The Rev. James Warnke, priest, Michael Shumway, Catherine Gooch, Larry Toppin, Lesly Gannelli, Diane Tekirian, Howard Goldin, Chris Spilker, Lexi Manning, Gina DeMarsico, Stephanie Luciani, Christian Davis, Shawn Davis, Felix Wroten, Suzanne Morris, Lauren Rosenthal, Nancy Mohr, Roseanne Levine, Jenafer Medina, Charlotte Wilson, Rich Landi, Lorie and John Menitti, John Whitlock and Gaylord Hitchcock, priest.

For those who have died especially Emily E. McCloy (11/3), Walter Johnson, Sr. (11/5), Italo (Chick) Gemmato (11/6), John Thomas (11/6), Emily Muller (11/6) , and Olajide Esho (11/9).

PRAYER LIST REQUESTS . . . To add any names to the parish prayer list, please send an email to kmaccourt@gmail.com with the name of the person to be prayed for, your name and a brief description of the person’s health or other situation (note if long-term or chronic).  Names are listed for four weeks and then rotate off, but they can be added again as needed.  If you have questions, please speak with the wardens or Father Anthony.

THE NECROLOGY . . . Having renewed our commitment to the eternal life offered to us by God, we remember those who have entered into his nearer presence, and who await with the Church Triumphant the coming again of our Lord Jesus Christ.

REMINDER:
Please answer and return the Stewardship survey you received in your email last week. The answers, as noted, do not obligate you to any group unless you so indicate. We would like to know what is important to you and what interests our congregation at large. There are paper surveys in the Nave if you prefer; just drop it into the collection plate. If you have already returned yours, thank you.

We appreciate your time. Many thanks.

FROM THE BISHOP . . .  What does success look like for us? Bishop Hughes discusses how, as followers of Jesus Christ, our success as individuals and as congregations is not measured in secular terms, but by fulfilling our mission to share God's love, mercy, and justice.
